Project Picture Dump

I apologize in advance for the lengthy post (I'll try to sum it all up)...

I arrived home on Friday evening around 7 after my last final.... and the last final on campus. Don't even get me started. Then I somehow managed to pack myself into my car among a bazillion boxes of who knows what. It was a tight ride back.

Saturday: I traveled to Lawrence (yuck) to watch Jesse's brother graduate from Med school (yay!). It was fun to watch him finally earn his rightful title of Doctor; Soooo Jarod....Free healthcare?????? I mean, I really REALLY hate going to the doctor. Really. So I'm hoping if I have any odd circumstances arise I can just text him and never have to set a foot in the doctors office again. It sounds really great in theory. We'll trade health care for creative house projects. It's kind a great compromise, you can mull it over and get back to me :)

Sunday: Mothers Day! I was so happy I got to spend it with my mom! We went to Jamie's and had a yummy meal, as usual, and then rolled ourselves home with full tummy's.

Today: I have been pretty busy. I watched a couple tv shows, prepared myself for my next artistic adventure (pics to come next week), started organizing, got distracted, which leads me to my blogging point. I got a little distracted while organizing the million upon million boxes. I came across projects I had done, and realized that I kind of needed to work on documenting these things. So I started taking pictures of them:

Akari Lamp: Final Project for 3D Design! I ran out of wood, which you can definitely tell in the bottom pictures, so as soon as I get motivation back, I will be fixing that little problem.

I did these pictures for fun at the very end of last May, but finally found some frames for them not too long ago. and this is where my love of wall paper book began! I found a cute swirly picture of a tree, and decided that I wanted to recreate it when I found some cool wallpaper. So I drew and cut, and then found some fun green wallpaper and added a border! Can't wait to find a home for them in my new place!

It's the 1 Year birthday of my little coffee table! I LOVED wood shop, and stumbled on my table that I've been dying to put in the right place. Unfortunately, I managed to forget all the pain (literally.... I cut myself many times on the pieces) I went through and the agonizing cutting and placing of the mosaic tiles... and now I have another table (that I found garage sale-ing) that I want to mosaic. Really. When will I learn to quit.

In love with those baskets I found.

A couple drawings from my Drawing 1 Class:

I had to do a still life, so I set up a bunch of pottery that I made.

one of the beginning projects: I had to do a contour drawing of something. Make-up brushes were the obvious choice.

Craft day with one of my friends from K-State! I love the Beatles. As soon as I finished it, I found a saying that said "All you need is Love, and a little chocolate doesn't hurt". I have a feeling I will be painting over this!!

And lastly! My cute picture frame fell off the wall and chipped, so I had been trying to figure out what to do with it. Then it hit me, make a calendar out of it. So I got out my wallpaper books, of course, and cut out fun colors, added some stickers and flowers, then stuck them in the frame. Now I can use a dry erase marker over the top and write my schedule. I love it! After that, I painted the areas that were chipped in green. Lucky for me, it was every other frame. Totally revamped for nothing.

Have a Beautiful (crafty) Day!

Sleepover~ Sister Style

I had a super busy, fun, pre-finals, weekend getaway to see my sister, Sam, and her hubby in Kansas City. We had been planning on this trip for quite some time, so it was fun that it worked out to be this weekend. She had been wanting me to come down for First Fridays, which is this huge thing for people to view area artists work. So we all know that I was all over that idea. There were lots of fun little snacks and what not along the way, definitely need to do this again in June's first Friday! Anyways, it was amazing to view all the up-and-coming artists, and I enjoyed gaining inspiration from it as well.

Saturday: Sam discovered a little gem for the weekend. Apparently, someone was trying to get the Guinness World Record for largest dog parade (Chihuahua dogs were encouraged, in honor of Cinco de Mayo). I think they were trying to get 600 or 700 to beat the previous record. Anyways we took Sam's doggies down to participate. As they were announcing the start, everyone with a Chihuahua held it up in the air. There had to have been at least 100 of them held up.  It was HILARIOUS! I thought I was in the Lion  King. We about died laughing at the sight. Unfortunately, we did not beat the record, or get our winning certificate we were hoping for. Next time though, we're fostering a bunch of dogs and bringing them down. I won't give up on this. After walking a block in the scorching heat, we decided we needed smoothies, so we made Bobby drive us all around KC searching for the right place. He knows how to get in the good graces of the Remmers Women. Good man, good man.  After that, we made a trip to the Good JuJu area, which now has grown to 17 vintage collection (furniture, antique, oh-my-gosh I want to revamp this!) stores. My mind almost exploded with ideas, I almost fell over with excitement. Good thing I made sure to leave my money behind. I wanted everything. I can't wait until I can actually get a place to decorate!

Sunday~ Was a relaxed day, which was a great ending to the weekend, otherwise I would have fallen asleep on the way back to Manhappiness! We did make a delish pie! (we both love cooking) Strawberry, Nectarine, Peach. So yummy. I'm about to delve into it again. I left around three, I assumed the rain storms were done. Wrong answer. I got to outside of  Lawrence (bad luck in itself ) and I had to stop, it was raining so bad, I couldn't see the car in front of me. I felt like I was hydroplaning, so I chose life, and pulled over. I was pretty proud of myself for finding my parking lights. Don't sass me-- I'm a girl and I remembered, so we're going to pretend that it isn't expected. Thanks. Anyways, that lasted FOREVER before I could move on again. Next, as I was leaving Lawrence, I made a wrong turn. It put me home over a half hour later. Not working for me. I was beyond ticked, so I drove and finally found a place to turn around in and headed the other way. Still running behind, but not by 45 minutes. After that, I had to stop AGAIN outside Topeka. I think you can imagine the state I was in, so I won't go there. I finally made it back, three hours later. Hungry, tired, tear-streaked, and crabby. Jesse was so excited to see me :)

That's all she wrote! Have a Beautiful Day!

PS- As SOON as I get to Sabetha, I will take pictures of my final project. Pretty proud of it, not gonna lie- Get excited :)

***** Thanks for the super fun weekend Sammy Jo! Can't wait until next time :)

Weekend Business

My eyes are blood shot. It's a fact. The past couple days have been GRUELING! This week is like my finals week. Not the written, test finals, but the art finals. My classes end next week! How crazy is that?!

But back to the point.

My eyes are bloodshot, and I'm pretty sure they are about to roll out of my head. I've been working on a drawing for one class (and I'm getting another stinking one tomorrow!!) and I've been working on the seemingly innocent Akari Lamp. Jesse helped me over the weekend on it. And it wasn't easy. It wasn't even remotely easy. I could feel him cursing every angle I unknowingly added to that lamp. We worked on it for about three hours the first night, and then another three the next night, and then some more the next day. Here it sits in front of me. Staring through my red, no longer creative, wild eyes and right into my soul. I will conquer this project! Today I finally made some headway on it and put the pieces together so it no longer looks like a mess of rubble, and it's also painted. But, on the not-so-bright side I have a long way to go. A very, very long way to go. Don't even get me started on it.

This weekend I went home for prom and got to babysit Livie. She is just so hilarious. Well she was until she pulled a nice little stunt at prom! I had been looking forward to prom walk-in for WEEKS! I was so excited to see all the pretty dresses and reminisce, and then get sad, and then remind myself that when I was in their shoes I was wishing I was where I'm currently at.  Anyways. I was babysitting the little cherub and for a very fun treat, Jesse was picked us up to go watch all these pretty dresses. Livie was psyched, I was psyched, Jesse was......not psyched, but I pretended he was. She was doing such a good job and loved seeing all the colorful girls. We talked, we laughed, we talked some more about the pretty dress she was wearing. Then out of no where:

"Auntie May, I have to go potty."

--"No you don't."

"I have to go potty."

--"Are you sure?!?! We're going to miss all the pretty dresses, and Meggie's friends are going to be pulling up so so soon! Let's try to wait."

"I go in grass."

--"No no no!!! I will take you, sweet, sweet adorable child."

I grabbed her and ran, fearing that A. I would miss the girls I came to watch, and B. She would go immediately, seeing as, when toddlers have to go, they have to go RIGHT THEN! I had her get on my back and we sprinted to the near gas station so she could relieve her little self.

When she was done she got back on my back and we sprinted back. She just thought that was hilarious and kept yelling "Faster, Faster!" as I exasperatedly ran up the mini hill. We were SO CLOSE,! We were nearing the throng of people, when  I noticed that those very same people were now dwindling to a few stragglers. WHAT!!!!! She looked a little confused and asked me where the pretty dresses went and I replied that they all went in to eat their food and we missed them! She was a little sad, but I got her mind off of it by saying that we were going to go home and get her some food too. Now, where was someone to console me? No one, but Jesse, laughing hysterically at my misfortune. I tried to get him to rack his brains and tell me what all the dresses looked like. He looked at me like I was insane. He stammered out a few words and then just looked at me and said he didn't know. Seriously.

Livie Elaine! Your momma owes me BIG TIME for that!! Big!.... Time!

The rest of the weekend was a little less uneventful, thank goodness! As soon as I get Jesse to send me the pictures, I will post them on here.

So back to today. I was doing my project, which consisted of and ink drawing and some added charcoal. I found a great little area with a grove of trees. Perfect. I sat up my little camp and began my drawing. I wasn't out there for more than an hour and decided that I was done. It's not too bad, but you never know how crit will go! Anyways I got back to Ford after talking out front with some friends, lazily made it to my room and remembered that I needed to work on the cursed lamp. I noticed that my arms and back were feeling a little tight, but didn't think much about it. I got up to do some stretching, looked in the mirror, and almost screamed. I can't even explain to you how burnt my back and arms and leg (yes, just one!) are. I can't even stand to lay on my bed or have any form of fabric touch it. To top it all off I was wearing a tank top, so I have a nice design on my back and one flaming red thigh. You know those perfectly even tanned models?? Ya that's not me.

Cute, Tan model

Me.

Okay I may be exaggerating a little- I'm not a male. Okay, okay, it's not THAT bad, but I think you get my drift.

Have a Beautiful Day!

Busy Life

Well. As you can tell, I've done a little updating on the Blog! I recently figured out a new thing called "tabs" and boy am I adding them like a crazy woman! So here goes the long blog post:

Explaining Tabs:
Finished Projects- If I can keep up with it (I'm trying here!) will be a compilation of my art projects at K-State, and projects I get asked to do-YES! I do that, I'd love, love LOVE to do anything anyone asks me, BUT I will not be advertising myself on here, I don't really want this to turn into a selling blog, because people want to hear about my life- right?!?! :) - not a business.....Okay enough about that.

Crafts- I love to do little crafty projects. I have nothing on there now, but I have a ton of pictures to upload and I have a million projects on my "Summer To-Do List" that will eventually end up in my apt. YAY!

Megan's Must Reads-  I'm a self-proclaimed book worm. I also get really excited once I finish a book and then try to get everyone else to read it also. And lastly, I'm always looking for amazing new reads, so I figured there is SOMEONE else out there that enjoys reading in their spare time, and will want to browse my selection- which is a ongoing list..... so check back.

Nextly, is that a word? well it is now. Nextly, I will be working on a new look for my blog because I like to change things up once in a while. But who knows when I will find time.

NEXT TOPIC.....
Weeked. Was. CrAzY! Don't get me wrong, I love storms. But I was a nervous nelly for some reason. I called my dad three or four times to see what was up, mainly because I was flustered just sitting around. We were both a bit concerned about the "baseball size hail" coming to my perfect little Manhappiness, so I check my car into the parking garage for a couple nights. Then I packed up my jewelry and laptop and made sure I had reasonable shoes (OH PLEASE! If I had it my way, I'd be in heels all the time) and was more than ready for a storm to hit. Jesse and I rented a few movies with some friends and waited out most of the storm.... which was a joke because I don't even think it rained once in two days. Better than a tornado though!

Now, I have been a busy bee preparing myself for finals and moving out. I like my stuff very organized and I like to be prepared so I don't overwhelm myself, which happens often. Mainly because my ideas sound a million times better in my head. So I've been keeping up and preparing for tests by making flashcards right after my lecture ends. Guess who will not be fiddling with making those dumb things come finals. Clever, I know. I pretty much have everything lined up for my final project in 3D design (which is a lamp!) and I'm currently dreading my upcoming final project for Drawing. Please don't be a self portrait, please don't be a self portrait, please don't be a self portrait...........

In between organizing and cleaning and attempting to be endlessly creative I'm TRYING to find a summer job in Sabetha- so if you hear of anything.... LET ME KNOW!!! :) Now, my allotted little break is over.

Have a Beautiful Day!

4 Weeks!

There are 4 short (longish) weeks until the first year of my college career is over. Done. Fini. Yes I looked up "finished" in French. We keep it classy around here. But back to the main point. This year has gone by super fast and I'm really excited to wrap up all these projects and tests for the year.

Right now I'm finishing up my self portrait. Yes, this is in fact the third time you have read that sentence. I'm as sick of doing self portraits as you are of reading that I'm doing more self portraits. I'm crossing my fingers that this is the last one, but I have a feeling that she is going to make our very last project, the 4th self portrait. Or at least that's what I have wrenching nightmares about. Every. Single. Night.  I may or may not put up a picture of it. It's pretty awful and I don't want anyone doubting my artistic abilities :) I just keep reminding myself that I will not be drawing people for the rest of my life, and then I feel this HUGE, happy sigh of relief. BUT THEN that reminds me that I have 3 years left of school, and another 2 (my masters) after that... which makes me wonder if I would rather just be a starving artist :) Just kidding!.... but really...

Easter was fantastic, it was fun to be able to spend it with family and celebrate. I wish I had pictures at this very moment but sadly I do not. I will have to steal them from Jamie before she puts them up on her blog :)

In the mean time though, I will be sitting here, studying for another test- I will not miss those this summer.

Happy Birthday to Momma (on the 6th) and Sammy (on the 5th) I happened to have a picture with both of them together, and no, I'm not allowed to tell their ages. But my mom keeps saying she's 30 :)

You Know You're an Art Student When...

After another long day of drawing. I came back defeated, yet done, and immediately got on the internet... i happened to stumble on an article: "You Know You're an Art Student When...." and of course I had to click on it... and then browse for some more... and then share with you..

You Know You're an Art Student When:
- You have art supplies at home that you "borrowed" from school
- When you're not doing art, you're always thinking about how you should be doing it
- Hearing the words art is an easy subject makes you cringe
- You have a new appreciation for abstract anything (WAY harder than it looks..!!)
- You usually have something on your face..
- .... and you no longer care that you have something on your face
- Your room looks like hobby lobby moved in
- You get excited over fresh pencils
- Going to the art museum is the class field trip from heaven
- You draw your notes in other classes instead of writing them
- You know the true meaning of "Dumpster Diving"
- You spend as much time trying to save money on art supplies as you do homework
- You eat on the floor because your table is covered in art supplies
- You have found every way possible to open doors without using your hands
- Your room mates gather around to watch you do your homework
- You are blogging to avoid finishing that annoying assignment :)

Have a Beautiful Day!

Finished Product

Okay, I know I promised that I would post pictures on the production of my clock, but then I thought to myself, who wants to see that jumbled mess anyways??? Especially when, for some odd reason, NO ONE can picture what I see in my head. Believe me, I've tried the explaining route- I get glazed stares. So after a million years of working in the woodshop, and a million more years painting and gluing I am now officially done with my project.

The object of the assignment was to create an abstract clock, and design it in "memphis style", which became popular in the 70's?? I believe. The first Memphis Style creations showed up in Target, and I also think all the cute Isaac Mizrahi things at Target fall under this category... aka: bright, bold, abstract colors and designs. Okay, done with the history lesson and here are the pics.
